Bundesliga Betting
Watching European soccer can be fun.
So why not make it more exciting by betting on the action-packed German Bundesliga games?
But before you go betting, here are some tips on Bundesliga betting.
Why Bet on the Bundesliga?
Among all the major soccer leagues like the La Liga, Serie A, and English Premier League, the Bundesliga matches have always seen packed stadiums.
It’s no surprise that the football league has gained traction among US fans, too.
The German Bundesliga, Germany’s premier football league, has a record of 3.05 goals per game. German soccer teams use fast-paced and aggressive game plans, leading to fewer goalless matches compared to other soccer leagues.
The Bundesliga games are a great way to get involved in German football betting.
The league usually starts in August every year with 34 games per season. This gives bettors plenty of matches to bet on.

How to Bet on Bundesliga
With the various Bundesliga betting options available that fit the league’s playstyle, we are here to assist you in increasing your chances of winning your bet.
Moneyline Betting
In NBA, NFL, and NHL matches, teams play overtime when the game results in a tie.
But in the Bundesliga, the game can end in a draw. So draw outcomes should also be considered.
To better understand betting on this league, take these Bundesliga odds for the SC Freiburg and FC Augsburg match:
Team |
Moneyline |
SC Freiburg |
-200 |
FC Augsburg |
+250 |
Draw |
+320 |
Unlike in other games where your stakes are returned if the match ends in a tie, the Bundesliga 3-way moneyline betting lets you bet on a draw.
In the example, Freiburg has a high chance of winning the match.
The minus sign in the odds tells us that Freiburg is the favorite, while the plus sign means that Augsburg winning or a draw is less likely to happen.
If you bet on a Freiburg win, you need to bet $200 to win $100 (plus your original $200 back) if Freiburg succeeds.
You can also use this formula:
(Your bet ÷ odds × 100) + your bet = payout
For example, you bet $500 on Freiburg. Using the formula, your total payout if Freiburg wins is:
Your bet ÷ odds × 100 = 250 and
250 + 500 = $750 payout
In moneyline betting, the underdog is identified by a plus sign. Betting on the underdog is risky but can yield a higher payout.
If Augsburg wins and you placed a moneyline bet on them, you earn $250 for every $100 bet.
(Your bet × odds ÷ 100) + your bet = payout
So if you bet $500 on Augsburg and they win the game:
Your bet × odds ÷ 100 = 1,250 and
1,250 + 500 = $1,750 payout
If you bet on a tie and you win, the computation will also follow the formula for the underdog payout since the odds of a draw has a plus sign:
(500 × 320 ÷ 100) = 1,600
1,600 + your bet = $2,100 payout
A winning bet on a draw yields the highest payout among the betting options in the 3-way betting line example. But this outcome is least likely to occur based on the odds.

Totals Betting
Totals betting or over/under is another way to bet on the Bundesliga.
With this betting type, you don’t bet on the outright winner. Instead, you bet on whether the match’s total combined score is higher or lower than the sportsbook’s predicted total score.
To understand the totals betting line further, here are the totals odds from a match between the VfB Stuttgart and FC Union Berlin:
Team |
Totals |
VfB Stuttgart |
O 3.5 (+120) |
FC Union Berlin |
U 3.5 (-110) |
If the opposing teams’ combined score is 4 points or more, you win if you bet on over (which means the total score is over 3.5 points).
To compute for the payout:
(Your bet × odds ÷ 100) + your bet = payout
For example, you bet $200 on “over 3.5 goals.” If the total score is higher than 3.5, using the formula above, your overall payout is:
Your bet × odds ÷ 100 = 240 and
240 + 200 = $440 payout
Let’s say the game ends and the competing teams’ combined score is 2 points. You win if you bet on under since the total score is under 3.5 points.
To compute for the payout:
(Your bet ÷ odds × 100) + your bet = payout
For example, you bet $200 on “under 3.5 goals.” If the total score is lower than 3.5, your overall payout is:
Your bet ÷ odds × 100 = 182 and
182 + your bet = $382 payout
Generally, bookmakers add a half-point to prevent a tie.
Since soccer has no 0.5 points, you lose your over bet if the teams’ total combined score is only 2 goals.

Point Spread Betting
Another betting option for Bundesliga is point spread betting.
Bookkeepers assign handicap points to the teams. If you check betting sites, the Bundesliga betting odds for point spread betting will look like this:
Team |
Point spread |
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim |
+2.5 (-120) |
VfL Wolfsburg |
-2.5 (+110) |
Let’s say you bet on Wolfsburg, and they won the match with a final score of 2-1. You lose your bet since they only won by 1 point.
For a bet on Wolfsburg to win, the team needs to win by 3 points or more.
If you bet on Hoffenheim, the team needs to win or not lose by more than 2 points.
Bookkeepers also add a 0.5 in the point spread to prevent a draw from happening.
If you bet $300 on Wolfsburg and they covered the spread, the computation for your payout would look like this:
(Your bet × odds ÷ 100) + your bet = payout
where
Your bet × odds ÷ 100 = 330 and
330 + your bet = $660 payout
If you bet $300 on Hoffenheim and they covered the spread, you can use the formula for negative odds:
Your bet ÷ odds × 100 or
300 ÷ 120 × 100 = 250
250 + your bet = $550 payout

Asian Handicap
An Asian handicap is an alternative for Bundesliga point spread betting. In Asian handicap betting, quarter-point spreads lower the risks of losing your entire bet.
Betting on a quarter-point spread can also result in a half win or half lose.
A half lose means you receive half of your stake, while a half win means you earn half of the profit based on how much you bet.
Let’s look at the table below:

Let’s use a 0.25 spread for the match between Borussia Monchengladbach and SV Werder Bremen:
Team |
Asian handicap |
Borussia Monchengladbach |
+0.25 (-120) |
Werder Bremen |
-0.25 (+110) |
If you bet on Werder Bremen and the match ends in a draw, half of your original stake is refunded. So if you placed $100, you get $50 back.
If you bet $120 on Borussia Monchengladbach, but the game ends in a draw, you still profit based on half of your original stake.
Here’s the formula you can use to compute your payout:
Half of your bet ÷ odds × 100 or
60 ÷ 120 × 100 = 50
50 + half of your bet = $110 payout
As for a 0.75 handicap, let’s look at an example of a match between FC Köln (FC Cologne) and Arminia Bielefeld:
Team |
Asian handicap |
FC Köln |
-0.75 (+120) |
Arminia Bielefeld |
+0.75 (-110) |
Let’s say the two teams’ final score tallied to 3-2 in favor of FC Köln. If you bet $110 on Arminia Bielefeld, you get a $55 refund since the team only lost by a goal.
Although Asian handicap betting can minimize the risks of losing your stake, it can also reduce your earnings. If you bet $100 on FC Köln, you earn a $60 profit since they only won by a single point.
Half of your bet × odds ÷ 100 or
50 × 120 ÷ 100 = 60
60 + half of your bet = $110 payout
In Asian handicap betting, you can also bet on a 0 handicap. For you to win your bet, your team should be the outright winner of the match. If the game ends in a draw, your bet will be refunded.

Futures Betting
Futures betting on the Bundesliga is a long-term bet on the potential winner of the league.
In futures betting, you can place a bet before the season begins or during midseason.
If you bet before the season starts, you should consider the top-performing teams last season.
Here’s an example of the futures betting odds of the top 5 teams of the Bundesliga:
Team |
Odds |
Bayern Munich |
-5,000 |
RB Leipzig |
+1,400 |
Bayer Leverkusen |
+8,000 |
Eintracht Frankfurt |
+8,000 |
Borussia Dortmund |
+10,000 |
Bayern Munich is predicted to have the highest chances of winning, as shown by the negative odds. Among the 18 German football clubs, Bayern Munich won the most seasons in the league.
If Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga title and you placed a futures bet on them, you earn $100 for every $5,000 you bet.
If you’re backing RB Leipzig and they win the season, you earn $1,400 for every $100 you bet.
For futures betting, you should consider the Bundesliga teams that qualified for the previous UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) Champions League.
These teams are a great choice for futures betting since only the top 4 of the Bundesliga league qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Although the potential payout is high, the problem with futures betting is that the money is locked until the Bundesliga season ends. So it’s important to manage your bankroll if you will bet on futures.
It’s also not recommended to bet on low-performing teams even though their odds are enticing.
Teams like the FSV Mainz, Hertha Berlin, and FC Schalke 04 each have +450,000 odds. They have the least chances of winning if they sink to the bottom of the Bundesliga standings midseason.

Prop Betting
Prop betting or proposition betting isn’t focused on the outright winner of the match but on the events that occurred in the game.
You can be more creative with prop bets. They can be about the players or teams. Examples of prop bets include:
- Will Jadon Sancho score a goal?
- How many goals will be scored in the first half of the game?
- How many yellow cards will Hertha Berlin get?
- Will there be a goal in the first 10 minutes of the game?
- Which team will score first?
Whether you’re planning to place prop bets, futures, or any type of Bundesliga bet, SportsBetting.com commits to providing you with the latest and sharpest Bundesliga odds.

Bundesliga Betting Tips
Know the Rules of Soccer Betting
Every sports betting site has its own rules on Bundesliga betting. Still, some rules are considered a standard in soccer betting, such as:
- Soccer matches are settled based on 90 minutes of play, also known as full-time and normal time. This includes stoppage and injury time.
- Overtime, penalty shootouts, and golden goals are not included in the computation of the winning or losing bets.
- Bets on the outright winners will be graded with no action if the soccer game doesn’t go full-time.
Analyze the Soccer Teams
In Bundesliga betting, you need to study the teams and their players. Before placing a bet, look at the team’s past performances.
Details on key players can also give you an idea of how the teams will perform. For instance, top goalscorer Robert Lewandowski’s performance affects the overall standing of Bayern Munich.
Stats showed that Lewandowski was Bundesliga’s #1 goalscorer in February 2021. It’s no surprise that he is better known as LewanGOALski.
Being updated on the Bundesliga news can also help you make the right calls. Sports news features updates on player performances or critical injuries.
