Premier League Odds
Why Bet on the Premier League?
Of all the football leagues out there, why should Premier League be on top of your list when it comes to sports betting?
Here are some reasons why:
The English Premier League (EPL) is the top tier or the highest division in professional football in England since 1992.
Since the Premier League is one of the most competitive leagues globally, the stakes are high, and betting on the games is usually more exciting.
The enthusiasm for this league increased when Liverpool won the EPL title in the 2019-2020 season after a 30-year drought.
These underdogs finished the season with 32 victorious matches and an 18-point lead against Manchester City, the crowd favorite.
Liverpool started the season with the odds of 9/4 (+225), while the crowd favorite, Manchester City, had the odds of 1/2 (-200).
This unexpected win raised the bar for the underdog turned Premier League defending champions.
Will Liverpool defend their crown, or will Manchester City reclaim their throne? Before starting your bet, look at the odds and ask yourself, why bet on this league?
The Premier League’s popularity makes it easy to find a sports bookmaker or a bookie in the online betting markets. No need to look for offshore options!
Premier League Betting Types
Before worrying about your favorite team’s odds, think about what type of bet you are willing to place.
We have listed down the commonly used betting types in the Premier League to give you the best football betting choices.
Moneyline
Moneyline betting is simply choosing which team you are hoping to win. It‘s considered the simplest form of betting in the EPL or in any sport.
With this type of betting, the odds provided by your bookie will determine your payout.
To simplify, you’ll see two types of odds: the odds with a (-) negative sign and the odds that have a (+) positive sign.
The team with (-) sign odds means they’re the team favored to win, while the team with a (+) sign odds is the underdog or the team that is unlikely to succeed.
These signs present how each side of the bet pays. The (+) side will pay you more than your original bet compared to the (-) side that pays less than your original stake.
Sometimes a bookie offers match event bets or matched bets. This is a low-risk betting technique with a guaranteed profit.
A matched bet is a profit made from the incentives or free bets offered by the bookie. This technique isn’t based on chance but, instead, on a mathematical equation.
If you want to turn free bets into real cash, matched betting is for you. You can do this by placing multiple bets on all the game’s possible outcomes, so you have a sure win!
Total Over/Under
If you want a more thrilling bet, try the totals bet or betting total over/under. This type of bet allows you to put your money on the teams’ expected combined scores.
Your bookie will set an estimated total score based on the odds. And you, as a bettor, will bet if the total scores will be over or under the score set by your bookie.
In this type of bet, the winner or loser of the game doesn’t matter. What matters is the final scores of the match. This betting type can be applied using the final or halftime score.
Futures
As the name suggests, this betting type happens in the future. It’s different from a single event bet because a futures bet happens in the long run.
In futures betting, your bet is placed on the outcome of the whole season, not just a single event.
Typically, this type of bet is placed on the MLB (Major League Baseball MLB), NFL (National Football League), and NBA (National Basketball Association). Aside from betting on who’ll be the champions, you can bet on who’ll be named MVP or rookie of the year.
Reading the Betting Odds
Before putting out your bet slips, learn more about odds, which refer to a bettor’s likelihood of winning the bet.
There are three types of odds: the decimal odds used in European leagues, American or moneyline odds, and fractional odds used in British Leagues.
Fractional odds are written with a hyphen (-) or a slash (/). This type of betting odds is mainly used by the biggest bookmakers in the world.
In reading the Premier League’s fractional odds, it’s essential to keep in mind that the odds represent the stake and the initial bet’s profit.
The fractional odds of 8/1 means that for every $1 you bet, you’ll win $8 in addition to the $1 you initially bet. So, you get a total of $9.
You can get the total payout by multiplying the amount of money you want to bet by the fractional odds and adding the stake amount.
In the above example, if you bet $20 on the 8/1 odds, your total payout would be $180.
($20 x 8/1) + $20 = $180
Compute your payouts quickly with our odds calculator.
Take a look at the numerator, or the number on the slash’s left side. If it’s higher, the team isn’t favored to win or is the underdog.
This makes your profit and payout higher. These odds are equivalent to the American odds with the (+) positive sign.
Now, focus on the denominator or the number on the right side of the slash. If it’s bigger, then you’re looking at the crowd favorite that is expected to win the game. In American odds, the favored team’s odds have a (-) negative sign.
Compared to the possible payouts when you bet on the underdog, the profit from betting on the favored team is lesser.
Hate complicated computations? A simpler odds type is the decimal.
These decimal figures indicate the amount won for every $1 bet. They contain numbers that already show the total payout you can get. Just multiply the amount at stake (bet) by the decimal odds number.

Get to Know the Premier League Clubs
Let’s delve deeper into each team’s historical stats and standings since the EPL started in 1992.
Below are some of the top clubs that participated in all the EPL seasons:
The Arsenal Club reigns in their home stadium, the Emirates Stadium. They started the league in 10th place and made their way to 4th place in the 1993/94 season. Unfortunately, they went down to 12th place during the 1994/95 EPL season.
And yet, Arsenal was unstoppable. The team bagged their first win in the 1997/98 EPL season. Since then, they have maintained their second-place standing from 1998 to 2001 until they grabbed their second win in the 2001/02 EPL season.
After their win in the 2003/04 season, Arsenal’s league position shifted from third to fifth. In the 2019/20 EPL season, they were in the 8th position with their top goalscorer at the time, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Dominating the Anfield stadium are the defending champions, Liverpool. They secured their first Premier League title in 30 years during the 2019/20 EPL season.
Liverpool started strong in the football league competition, reaching sixth place. Though their ranking wavered throughout EPL history, Liverpool never ranked lower than 8th place.
If not for Liverpool, Manchester City (Man City) would have been three-peat champions in the 2019/20 season.
On the other hand, Chelsea has been reigning in the Stamford Bridge stadium since 1992 when they started in 11th place. The club struggled during their first four years in the EPL. Still, they came out strong in sixth place in the 1996/97 EPL season.
Since then, Chelsea has climbed to second place and eventually earned a repeat win from the 2004/05 to 2005/06 EPL seasons with their top goalscorer Frank Lampard.
Manchester United led the Old Trafford stadium, where they dominated the Premier League’s first-ever season.
Manchester United maintained their rule by winning the 1993/94, 1995/96, and 1996/97 EPL seasons. Man Utd proved their supremacy with more than one three-peat win: the 1998/99 to 2000/01 EPL three-peat championship and the 2006/07 to 2008/09 record.
