Steelers vs. Seahawks: Memorable Games

All-Time Series

The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Seahawks have clashed 19 times, including one postseason game, from 1977 to 2019. Out of those 19 matchups, the Seahawks won ten games, and the Steelers won nine.

Super Bowl XL Controversy

From 1975 to 2009, the Steelers have played eight Super Bowls and won six of them. With six Super Bowl wins, the Pittsburgh Steelers is one of the most historically dominant teams in the NFL ever. But one of their Super Bowl wins had a dash of scandal.

Many sports enthusiasts theorized that the Super Bowl XL, where the Steelers met the Seattle Seahawks, was rigged.

On February 5, 2006, in Ford Field, Detroit, Pittsburgh’s second-year quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was looking forward to winning his first Super Bowl after barely making it to the playoffs as a six seed.

Roethlisberger and the rest of the Steelers had to face the offensive-loaded Seattle Seahawks in the finals. The Seahawks had seven players in the offensive line, including the season’s MVP, Shaun Alexander. It was an arduous challenge for the Steelers’ defense, led by Joey Porter and Troy Polamalu. But after ending the season with the least amount of rushing yards allowed, it was nothing they couldn’t handle.

The Steelers barely squeezed into the playoffs and went up against the Seahawks with a 13-3 standing. For fans who witnessed the matchup, Pittsburgh was somehow favored to win the game.

The Steelers got all of the calls, giving them the momentum they needed, followed by two close calls that ended any of the Seahawks' chances for a fourth-quarter comeback. The final score was 21-10. Ardent fans of the Seahawks felt that Pittsburgh only won because of the shockingly one-sided officiating.

2019 NFL Season: Stats and Betting Trends

Week 1 Recap

Before their matchup, both the Steelers and the Seahawks disappointed many bettors in Week 1. Although Seattle pulled out a one-point win at home against the Cincinnati Bengals, they still failed to cover 9.5-point favorites.

Without the help of their wide receiver Antonio Brown and running back Le’Veon Bell, Pittsburgh was railroaded by the New England Patriots in prime time, 33-3. The Steelers weren’t even close to staying within a 5.5-point spread.

In the Steelers-Patriots game, Pittsburgh gave up 341 yards and three touchdowns through the air to Patriots QB Tom Brady. Brady posted a QB rating of 124.9 against an overwhelmed Steelers’ defense.

Week 2: Steelers vs. Seahawks

The Steelers took on the Seahawks during Week 2 of the 2019 NFL season, in a Sunday Night Football game at Heinz Field. During their matchup, Pittsburgh was favored by 3.5 in the latest betting odds, while the over/under is 47.

However, QB Russell Wilson’s resilience propelled Seattle to their best start in six years. Wilson threw for 300 yards and three TDs to give the Seahawks the lead, protecting the team in a 28-26 victory that pushed them to 2-0 for the first time since 2013.
