Eagles-Chargers Spread
In past years, the Eagles and the Chargers gifted their fans with the best games. In the NFL 2021 season, will football fans witness another intense east versus west battle featuring these two teams?
Eagles-Chargers: All-Time Series
The Philadelphia Eagles and the Los Angeles Chargers first met each other on October 6, 1974, at San Diego Stadium. About 36,124 football fans witnessed the intense match that resulted in the Eagles’ victory, 13-7.
The NFC East team Philadelphia and the AFC West team Los Angeles faced each other 12 times between 1974 and 2017. During those matchups, the Eagles won five games, while the Chargers won 7.
Their matches in those years were close games except on October 26, 1986, when the Philadelphia Eagles outscored the LA Chargers at home, 23-7.
The 2017 Philadelphia Eagles Season
In 2017, Philadelphia finished the regular season with a 13-3 record, the same as the Patriots, the Minnesota Vikings, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, the different tie-breaking provisions gave the Eagles the NFC’s top seed in the 2017-2018 playoffs.
In that same season, the Eagles scored 457 points total. Philly’s Pro Bowl quarterback Carson Wentz led the offense. During his sophomore season, Wentz set a passer rating of 101.9. He threw for 3,296 yards and 33 touchdowns with only seven interceptions.
Super Bowl LII
The Eagles won one Super Bowl championship in 2018 against the New England Patriots, 41-33.
LA’s First Super Bowl Appearance
Super Bowl XXIX featured the Los Angeles Chargers and the San Francisco 49ers. The game was held on January 29, 1995, at Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami, Florida.
It was the Chargers’ first Super Bowl appearance. LA and San Francisco both scored in all four quarters. The aggregated score of 75 points and the ten total TDs of both teams remain a Super Bowl record.
Still, the 49ers controlled most of the game, resulting in their victory over the hopeful Chargers, 49-26.

Eagles vs. Chargers: The 2017 NFL Season Week 4
Start of the Game
LA’s wide receiver Tyrell Williams’ 75-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter was the ninth-longest catch in the Chargers’ history.
Interesting Plays
The Chargers found themselves in a 13-0 hole after Philly’s placekicker Jake Elliot kicked a 40-yard field goal in the second quarter.
However, the Chargers’ first snap of the ensuing possession happened when Philip Rivers stepped back and lobbed a pass in the middle of the field to fellow Bolts player Williams.
Williams then beat two Eagles defenders and ran into the end zone with his arms outstretched to cut Philly’s lead to six.
Turning Point
After the Bolts’ QB Austin Ekeler made a touchdown that reduced the opposing team’s lead to two points, Philly got the ball back with 13:42 remaining.
LA’s defense then had seven tries to limit Philadelphia to a field goal after a pair of penalties. However, on the seventh play, Philly’s running back Wendell Smallwood rushed in to make it a 26-17 game.
Game Over
Although the Bolts got the score within seven minutes, they still couldn’t make a single stop on the ensuing Philadelphia possession. The Eagles won the matchup, 26-24.
